Bliss at the Barn

Since my last post a wonderful turn of events happened...Jess, my sister-friend, decided to join us here in Ubud. I am so happy to have her here, she is a great support for me and we have attempted to travel together in the past and have never been able to make it work so it is super exciting we are finally having an adventure abroad! She was doing a work study program at Esalen, however with the heavy rains and flooding the roads got shut down and she had to be evacuated via helicopter which is pretty crazy. I told her what better way to wait out the reopening then to come to Asia and hang out with me. Great plan. We have been enjoying days spent around the yoga barn, hangin' at the villa, dinners out (some of the restaurants are just gorgeous), spa treatments (incredibly cheap here), strolling the streets of Ubud and taking in the sights, and have also discovered a fun little hookah bar that has great live music.

Unintentional Twins :)

Upon returning to Ubud from my adventure at sea I was happy to get back into the yoga barn groove and show Jess this amazing spot. I have fallen in love with this place and spend a majority of my time there both taking classes and just hanging out. I will generally pick 2-3 classes per day to attend, mostly yoga but I also mix in some of the other offerings at the barn including meditation classes, kundalini, sound healing, Tibetan sound bowls, and women's circles. They even have yoga with free weights which is super fun and a great work out! I love the variety they offer and with 3 studios you are always bound to find something of interest. I have also started practicing my inversions and head stands in hopes that I will be able to become a better yogi when I leave here.

I had a good luck butterfly join me for an entire Vinyasa class one day...magical!

The cafe on site is another huge bonus about the barn and has amazing fresh and organic foods and lots of juices and raw chocolates and other treats. Their prices are incredibly affordable and I tend to eat most my meals here between my classes. They have a separate juice bar offering a wide variety of delicious fruit and veggie options that have cleansing super powers, think lots of ginger, tumeric, beets, etc. Plus, they have my favorite, fresh coconuts!

I find the yoga barn incredibly peaceful and filled with many interesting people from all over the globe. I have noticed a strong common thread among the people I encounter here, with most of them going through various life transitions and seeking guidance, healing and a fresh perspective. Every day we meet new and interesting people and it is great to be in a place that draws in such warm and open souls all willing to share their stories. All in all it is very zen and I feel refreshed and blessed to be able to take this time for some inner reflection.

  1. Maybe you invest in the yoga barn, Kelsey...be an owner instead of just a customer!
